Indonesian skywatchers were treated to a rare astronomical event as Venus disappeared behind the crescent moon, a phenomenon known as an occultation, according to SuaraGarut.ID. The pairing of the moon and Venus also created a conjunction, with the two bright objects appearing close together in the night sky.

Kompas.com reported that the occultation — in which Venus was hidden as the moon passed in front of it — was observed from Lampung. Tempo.co described the event as a chance to watch Venus slip behind the moon, while CNN Indonesia noted the crescent moon and bright planet formed a striking "star and crescent" shape in the evening sky. SuaraGarut.ID also reported that the conjunction of Venus and the crescent moon was visible across Indonesia.

The event drew attention because occultations involving a planet as bright as Venus are not everyday sights. When the moon passes directly between Earth and Venus, the planet briefly disappears from view before reappearing on the other side. Because the moon was a thin crescent, the contrast between the dark lunar disk and the bright planet made the disappearance easier to follow for observers with a clear view of the western sky.

Reports from multiple Indonesian outlets focused on the same window of visibility, with the occultation and the wider conjunction unfolding together. Details such as exact timing varied by location, and the accounts here are drawn from the published reports rather than independent observation.

Skywatchers hoping for a repeat will need to wait for the next favorable alignment, when the moon again crosses in front of a bright planet within view of Indonesia.
