A collision between a fishing boat and a water taxi in the Venice lagoon has left a newlywed fisherman in critical condition and his wife missing, according to Corriere del Veneto. The two were identified as Sean Michieli and Gabriella Querino.
Michieli is reported to be in fin di vita — near death — while Querino has not been found since the crash. The Corriere del Veneto describes the couple as young newlyweds.
Search efforts are concentrated in the Tessera canal, VeneziaToday reports, with divers and a helicopter taking part. ANSA also reports that operations to locate the missing woman resumed.
Il Gazzettino carried comments from Michieli's mother, who said the family needs a miracle and that she is praying for his wife.
The exact circumstances of the collision have not been established in the reporting available so far.
Further updates are expected as the search in the lagoon continues and authorities release more information about the crash.
