THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE MANDATE

(See People Through God’s Eyes)

TO THE BIBLE – 1 John 4:10-11

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

Maya stood at her locker, jaw tight. Across the hallway, Jordan was laughing with the same group that had “accidentally” spilled juice on her project last week. The same Jordan who still made snide comments about her “church girl” playlist whenever the class had free time.

She had already decided: freeze him out. No eye contact. No answers if he asked for notes. Let him feel what it was like.

Then the verse she’d read that morning hit her again.

For God so loved the world…”

Not the nice people. Not the ones who never offended Him. The world. The ones who didn’t even want Him.

Maya shut her locker slowly. If God could look at people who rejected Him and still see value worth the blood of His Son, then maybe she could look at Jordan and see more than the annoyance.

At lunch she walked past his table, stopped, and said quietly, “Hey… the notes from yesterday’s history class. I can send them if you still need them.”

Jordan looked up, surprised, then nodded. “Uh… yeah. Thanks.”

No big speech. No dramatic apology demanded. Just one kind action that cost her nothing except pride.

That afternoon, when another classmate rolled her eyes at Maya’s suggestion during group work, Maya didn’t snap back. She simply repeated the idea calmly and moved on. Anger never got the invitation it used to.

By the end of the day she realised something: the more she practised seeing people the way the Father sees them—beautiful, valuable, worth loving—the less room there was for bitterness. Malice had nowhere to sit.

God’s love is unconditional and irrevocable. He doesn’t keep score of how many times we’ve failed Him. And He’s asked us to imitate that same love with classmates, siblings, teammates… even the ones who get under our skin.

Everyone is lovable. They’re all worth the blood of God’s own Son.
