Scattered thunderstorms are forecast across every district of South Bengal, while northern districts are not yet free from the threat of severe weather, according to Anandabazar Patrika. The report, published on Saturday, said the unsettled conditions are expected to persist through the weekend.

A low-pressure area has re-intensified over the sea, Anandabazar Patrika reported. In response, a thunderstorm and rain warning was issued for Kolkata and all districts of South Bengal on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department issued the alert, according to Indian Express Bengali, which reported that five districts could face stormy conditions within a few hours after midday. News18 also reported that scattered thunderstorms would continue across South Bengal and that northern Bengal remains under its own forecast.

The material does not specify which five districts were named in the IMD warning, nor does it give expected rainfall amounts or wind speeds.

Anandabazar Patrika reported that northern districts are still not getting relief from hazardous weather. The same outlet said conditions across South Bengal will feature scattered rain rather than continuous downpours.

What to watch next: whether the low-pressure area over the sea strengthens further, and when the IMD expects the storm and rain pattern to ease.
