Several gaming outlets have recently published lists of older titles they believe deserve a second life on current hardware. The coverage, which appeared on September 6, 2026, focuses heavily on games from the PlayStation 2 era, according to reports from Legião dos Heróis and other publishers.
Legião dos Heróis compiled a selection of ten older games that the outlet argues should return for the new generation of consoles. The publication did not specify which platforms or titles made the cut, but the broader conversation centers on remakes and remasters of beloved classics.
Other outlets joined the discussion with similar retrospectives. Canaltech published its own list of ten PlayStation 2 games that merit full remakes, while SpaceMoney highlighted PS2 classics that could benefit from modern technology. Diariodamidia.com.br specifically called out the game Black as a leading candidate, placing it at the top of a list of ten PS2-era titles that deserve a remake.
The recurring theme across these articles is nostalgia for the PS2 library, which is widely regarded as one of the richest in gaming history. The console hosted a vast range of genres, and many of its standout titles have not been re-released on current platforms. The outlets suggest that improved graphics, updated controls, and quality-of-life features could introduce these games to a new audience while satisfying longtime fans.
Interest in revisiting older games is not new, but the recent wave of successful remakes in the industry may be fueling these calls. Publishers have seen strong commercial results from updating classic franchises, which makes further PS2-era revivals a plausible next step.
What to watch next: Whether any major studio responds to this renewed fan interest with an official announcement in the coming months.
