Prince William will represent Britain's royal family at the funeral of King Harald V of Norway in Oslo, according to a report from Italian news agency ANSA.

The Prince of Wales will attend the ceremony in place of his father, King Charles III, who will not be present at the event. ANSA did not specify a reason for King Charles's absence.

King Harald V's funeral is scheduled to take place in Oslo on September 9. The event is expected to draw a large gathering of European royals, as well as representatives from Japan, according to Corriere della Sera. The Italian newspaper reported that numerous royal figures from across the continent and beyond are set to travel to the Norwegian capital for the farewell.

Swiss President Viola Amherd will also attend the funeral, as reported by Swiss broadcaster TVS. Italy's embassy in Oslo has warned that the ceremony is likely to cause disruptions to border controls, flights, and general mobility in the city on the day of the funeral, according to a notice cited by ANSA.

The funeral marks the end of a long reign for Harald V, who had been Norway's monarch. The presence of so many international dignitaries reflects the close ties between the Norwegian royal family and other European monarchies.

Observers will be watching to see how the royal families of Europe come together to honor the late king, and whether any further details emerge about King Charles's decision to stay away from the ceremony.
