The Nigerian House of Representatives committee investigating the Public Finance Investment and Procurement Commission (PFIPC) has explained why it did not invite or interrogate Femi Gbajabiamila, the commission’s board chairman, according to Premium Times Nigeria.

The panel’s chair said Gbajabiamila was not summoned because the committee found no grounds to question him in connection with the probe. The explanation comes after the committee cleared Gbajabiamila of wrongdoing, Premium Times Nigeria reports.

The investigation, which concluded this week, instead focused on the PFIPC’s director-general, Adeyemi. According to TheCable, the committee linked 12 agencies and 58 bank accounts to Adeyemi. The Guardian Nigeria News also reported that the House panel traced those 58 bank accounts to Adeyemi, while Daily Trust described the commission’s board as a “phantom” council that the committee cleared Gbajabiamila from.

The Nation Newspaper called the matter “serious,” reflecting the weight of the findings against Adeyemi. The committee’s decision to clear Gbajabiamila while pursuing the director-general suggests the probe centered on operational management rather than board oversight.

Premium Times Nigeria did not provide further detail on the specific allegations against Adeyemi or the nature of the 58 accounts. The panel chair’s statement appears aimed at addressing public questions about why a high-profile figure like Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House, was not questioned.

The committee’s full report has not yet been made public, and it remains unclear whether the findings against Adeyemi will lead to disciplinary action or referral to anti-corruption agencies. Observers will likely watch for the House’s next steps in adopting or acting on the panel’s recommendations.
