Residents in Madrid staged a protest on Sunday against access restrictions and what RTVE.es describes as thunderous noise caused by the Formula 1 race at the new Madring circuit. According to RTVE.es, locals said the event was destroying their neighborhood, citing both the disruption to movement in the area and the sound levels during the race weekend.

The demonstration came as Madrid celebrated the circuit's World Championship debut. EL PAÍS reports that 350,000 spectators attended the opening of the Madring across the weekend. El Mundo described the atmosphere at the La Monumental curve, noting fans packed in with beer and food as cars passed close to the barriers. El Periódico reported that the Madring City amusement park area exceeded all attendance expectations.

The scale of the event has also drawn scrutiny beyond the track. El HuffPost reported that the race generated a 467 million euro impact for Madrid, while also highlighting that hostesses were paid 9.36 euros per hour — a figure the outlet framed as part of the wider accounting around the race that it said receives less attention.

The competing accounts capture the tension around the Madring's first World Championship weekend: record crowds and a major economic figure on one side, and residents who say the event's footprint on their daily lives is too heavy on the other. What remains to be seen is whether city and race organizers respond to the residents' complaints, and whether any changes to access or noise management follow before the circuit's next event.
