Huawei has unveiled the Mate XT 2, its latest tri-fold smartphone, according to a report from lesnumeriques.com published Monday. The device introduces a G-shaped folding mechanism, an anti-spy filter, and an electrocardiogram (ECG) function, the outlet said.

The launch positions Huawei ahead of rivals in the foldable market. Lesnumeriques.com notes the Mate XT 2 carries a notably high price tag, which it describes as excessive. The phone’s design has also drawn comparisons to a Michelin guide map, as reported by 20 Minutes.

The G-fold refers to the device’s unique hinge layout, which allows the screen to fold in a zigzag pattern rather than a simple book-style fold. The anti-spy filter is designed to limit screen visibility from side angles, a feature aimed at privacy-conscious users. The inclusion of ECG monitoring adds a health-tracking capability typically found in premium wearables, per the French tech outlet.

Huawei’s announcement comes as competitors prepare their own foldable devices. Le Revenu reports that Huawei is bracing for Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, while Zonebourse and Boursorama indicate that Xiaomi is also readying a new foldable handset ahead of Apple’s upcoming event.

The Mate XT 2 follows Huawei’s earlier tri-fold model, the Mate XT, which launched in 2024. The new version appears to refine the format with additional features, though lesnumeriques.com did not provide full specifications in its initial coverage.

Industry observers will be watching whether Huawei’s aggressive feature set and premium pricing can sustain momentum as Apple and Xiaomi close in on the foldable segment.
