WALK ON WATER

(Keep Your Eyes on the Word)

Saturday, 5 September

TO THE BIBLE – Matthew 14:29-31

“So He said, ‘Come.’ And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, ‘Lord, save me!’ And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’”

The high from the successful project presentation lasted less than twenty-four hours.

Saturday morning, Maya’s phone lit up with a group chat from the science class. Someone had posted a photo of their finished model with the caption: “Teacher loved it. Some people just get lucky I guess.”

Then Tyler replied: “Wait till the next one. Reality hits eventually.”

Jordan texted Maya privately a few minutes later.

Jordan: Did you see the chat?

Jordan: They’re already waiting for us to fail next time.

Jordan: Maybe the project was a fluke.

Maya stared at the messages. The old familiar pressure started rising again—the same tight feeling in her chest she used to get before everything went wrong. For a second she almost typed back something careful and cautious. Something that left room for doubt.

Then she remembered Peter.

He had actually walked on water. The word “Come” from Jesus had been enough. The water held him… until he looked at the wind.

Maya put her phone down, opened her Bible app, and read the verse again slowly. Then she typed a reply.

Maya: It wasn’t luck. And it wasn’t a fluke.

Maya: The same Word that held Peter up is still working.

Maya: Don’t look at the wind.

Jordan didn’t answer immediately. When he finally did, his message was shorter.

Jordan: Easy for you to say. You’re not the one they’re watching to crash.

That afternoon they met at the library again—not for a project this time, just to study. The atmosphere was different. Quieter. Heavier.

Jordan kept glancing at his phone every few minutes, as if waiting for the next sarcastic comment. Maya noticed how his shoulders stayed tense.

Finally she closed her book.

“Jordan. When Peter started sinking, Jesus didn’t say the water had changed. He asked why Peter doubted. The wind was still there. The waves were still there. But the word ‘Come’ was stronger than both—until Peter took his eyes off it.”

She leaned forward slightly. “The group chat is the wind right now. Tyler’s comments are the waves. But none of that cancels what already happened. We spoke the Name. We saw the result. The only way we sink is if we start staring at the pressure instead of the Word.”

Jordan was quiet for a long time. Then he locked his phone and pushed it face-down on the table.

“Okay,” he said. “I’ll try. But if the next thing goes wrong—”

“Then we keep our eyes on the Word anyway,” Maya finished. “That’s the whole point. Faith doesn’t wait for the wind to stop. It walks while the wind is still blowing.”

They went back to studying. The group chat kept buzzing in both their bags, ignored.

Outside, the afternoon was windy. Inside the library, for the first time that day, the air felt steady.

ACT

Choose one verse from God’s Word today and keep it where you’ll see it often: on your phone, notebook, or desk. Read it several times and stay focused on what God says, especially when distractions or pressure arise.
