Episode 12
DESIRE THE GIFT OF PROPHECY
(Speak Forth The Word Of God In Power)
Saturday, 12 September
TO THE BIBLE– 1 Corinthians 14:1
“Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.”
Saturday morning brought no new messages from Tyler. The silence had now lasted long enough to feel deliberate. Jordan noticed it first.
“He’s either done,” he said as they sat on the low wall outside the library, “or he’s waiting for a better moment. I can’t tell which one, and it’s starting to bother me.”
Maya understood the discomfort. The confrontation on the library steps had ended cleanly, but the lack of resolution left a low-level uncertainty that refused to settle. Decisions about how to carry themselves at school still had to be made without knowing what might come next.
Jordan picked at a loose thread on his sleeve. “I keep trying to figure out the next move. What if he starts up again? What if the rest of the class is just waiting? I don’t want to stay in the dark about this.”
Maya turned toward him. “Then stop trying to guess your way through it. The Bible says we should desire to prophesy—to speak forth the Word of God in power. Not just for leaders. For every one of us. When you declare what God says about a situation, it brings edification, direction, and clarity. You don’t have to stay uncertain.”
Jordan looked sceptical. “You mean just… speak something out loud about Tyler and the whole thing?”
“I mean speak the Word over it,” Maya answered. “Prophecy isn’t about sounding spiritual for the sake of it. It’s about releasing what God has already said so that change can happen in the now. You’ve seen small versions of it already—when we spoke over the project, when we refused to match the carnal response. This is the next step: desiring to do it on purpose.”
She paused, then added, “You don’t have to wait until you feel ready or until someone gives you permission. The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every one of us to profit withal. That includes you.”
Jordan was quiet for a long moment. The campus around them was mostly empty, the weekend stillness broken only by the occasional student passing in the distance. The unresolved tension with Tyler still sat between them like an open question.
Finally he said, “Okay. Then let’s do it. I’m tired of trying to read the silence.”
Maya nodded. They didn’t make a show of it. Sitting there on the wall, Jordan spoke first—simple, direct sentences declaring peace over the situation, clarity for their steps, and that no plan formed against them would stand. Maya followed, speaking words of edification and strength over both of them.
Nothing dramatic shifted in the atmosphere around them. No sudden message arrived on either phone. But when they finished, the low-level agitation that had been sitting in Jordan’s shoulders had eased.
He exhaled. “I still don’t know what Tyler is going to do. But I don’t feel stuck in the dark about it anymore.”
Maya stood and brushed off her jeans. “That’s the point. Prophecy doesn’t always remove the situation immediately. It positions you above it. Keep desiring it. Keep speaking. The more you do, the clearer the path becomes.”
The silence from Tyler remained. The watching eyes of the class had not fully looked away. Yet something had changed in the way they faced the uncertainty. They were no longer only reacting to what might come. They had begun to speak into it.
