Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, directly criticized members of the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction within the Democratic Party, accusing them of attacking his expressions of loyalty, according to a report by 경향신문 on Friday.

In response to accusations of ingratitude from ruling party figures, Cho said he had issued warnings out of a sense of obligation to repay past favors, only to be met with what he described as "filth being thrown" at him. He questioned whether creating yet another person opposed to Lee Jae-myung would be of any help, as reported by MBC News and Money Today.

Cho’s remarks come amid growing tension between his party and the Democratic Party’s dominant pro-Lee wing. The Kyunghyang Shinmun report suggests Cho is positioning himself as a critical voice willing to challenge the mainstream faction, rather than offering unconditional support.

Separately, Cho addressed the issue of potential South Korean military deployment to the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that the constitution rejects wars of aggression, implying that such a deployment would require careful legal and constitutional review, according to the same report.

The exchange highlights a broader fracture within South Korea’s opposition bloc. Cho’s party has often been seen as an ally of the Democratic Party, but his recent statements signal a willingness to break ranks on key policy and political matters. His warning that attacks on him could produce another "anti-Lee" figure suggests he sees himself as a potential rival or at least an independent force within the progressive camp.

What to watch next is whether the Democratic Party leadership responds directly to Cho’s criticism, and how this affects opposition unity ahead of upcoming legislative battles.
