China Film's CINITY premium theater brand posted its highest-ever summer box office total for 2026, with revenue climbing 46.41% compared with the same period last year, according to a report from 新浪财经 (Sina Finance).
The record performance came as China's overall summer movie season wrapped up with total ticket sales exceeding 12.4 billion yuan, as reported by multiple outlets including 凤凰网山东 and 新华网. That figure corresponds to roughly 340 million admissions nationwide, with first-tier cities accounting for 19.2% of all box office revenue during the period.
Sina Finance's coverage highlighted CINITY's growth within this broader market context. The brand, which specializes in high-frame-rate and high-dynamic-range projection technology, has been expanding its footprint in Chinese theaters as exhibitors look to differentiate offerings and draw audiences back to cinemas.
The strong summer numbers stand in contrast to the wider industry's financial struggles. A separate Sina Finance report noted that around 70% of listed film and television companies posted losses in the latest earnings season, with many firms now treating artificial intelligence adoption as a potential lifeline for cost reduction and content production efficiency.

Additional reporting from Sohu pointed to accelerating localization efforts for imported films, suggesting that China's role as a global box office driver continues to strengthen even as domestic studios face margin pressure.
Looking ahead, the key question is whether CINITY's premium-format momentum can hold into the fall and winter release calendar, and whether AI-driven production strategies will help more studios turn a profit after a bruising earnings cycle.
