Apple introduced its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, at its September 2026 launch event, NDTV reported. The announcement marks Apple's entry into the foldable category after years of rivals shipping similar designs. NDTV described the launch as a nod to the iPad, suggesting the device's foldable screen draws on Apple's tablet heritage.
Coverage of the event spread quickly across outlets. Apple's own newsroom carried the headline "Apple unveils iPhone Duo," while The Hindu followed with a report on the phone's India launch, its price, its fold design, and how it compares with the iPhone 18 Pro. NDTV also published a separate piece noting that buyers holidaying in Sri Lanka could pick up the new iPhone Duo and still save Rs 15,000.
Not all early reaction was positive. Yahoo Finance framed the iPhone Duo around two problems: small hands and next-generation expectations, suggesting the foldable format may pose usability questions for some buyers and that the device will be measured against high hopes for a new generation of iPhone.
The reporting available so far covers the device's name, its foldable design, its positioning alongside the iPad, its India pricing, and its comparison with the iPhone 18 Pro. Full specifications and availability details were not included in the material reviewed here.
What to watch next: whether Apple confirms wider availability and pricing beyond the India and Sri Lanka details reported so far, and how the iPhone Duo performs against the iPhone 18 Pro in early reviews.
