Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim posted the word "slayyy" from New Delhi, according to Malay Mail, in a reply to a comment by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi about his role on Malaysia's Brics diplomatic mission.

The exchange began when Zahid, who leads Umno, said Anwar was serving as a "guru" while in India but still wanted updates on his party's general assembly, The Star reported. Anwar's response came from the Indian capital, where he was on official business tied to Malaysia's Brics engagement, per Malay Mail.

Malaysiakini described the prime minister's post as an answer to Zahid's remark. Free Malaysia Today reported that Zahid later thanked his followers "in country or abroad" following Anwar's message.

The back-and-forth continued when Zahid addressed young people, telling them that if their idea is "slay," they should show it "for real," according to NST Online.

The reports frame the exchange as a public, largely playful volley between the two leaders rather than a policy dispute. Anwar's trip to India and Malaysia's Brics diplomacy form the backdrop, with the prime minister posting from abroad while his party's internal meeting took place at home.

What to watch next: whether either leader says more about the exchange, and how Malaysia's Brics outreach progresses after Anwar's India visit.
